Working in my studio , March April May, as the world spun into pandemic fear and suffering I decided to try and paint what might express my wonder and despair.....Here is the first "abstract" (ie I was not looking at anything) I have worked on in many years....Really a virus is simply another part of the natural world...right? ...And how it affected me? Guess it felt like my idea of Hell (fear) and darkness....I just started putting paint scraped from my pallet with a knife onto 36x48 "300 lb Arche watercolor paper and this is what came out...The days seemed to just keep rolling along in quarantine unreality...I kept painting....Still am, just for todayUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2775643836322560520.post-77971821776458504522020-04-30T23:05:00.001-04:002020-04-30T23:05:23.826-04:00Dreaming of the Tropics as it Snows in April During the Pandemic<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This chair sits in my friend Claudia's bedroom in her apartment in NYC . I thought it was beautiful with the lovely conch shell sitting there in the light from the window and the rooftops in the distance, such a long way from its original home. Pink and green always turn me on....and so did all the angles of the walls and moldings, not to mention the shape of the chair and the wonderful upholstery....so there you have it...the last painting of this year. 24x30" oil on canvasUnknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2775643836322560520.post-20010597183033120952019-11-29T19:16:00.000-05:002019-11-29T19:16:30.409-05:00Alford Valley Late Autumn with Cows at Sunset<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I loved the sky and the shadows that the cows were casting over the still green grass in the late autumn light. The leaves are gone and the hills on theater side of the valley are the color of bare trees. Walking north from Mansion Beach on Block Island, one comes upon this scene....I had noticed it in the summer and returned to paint it one early morning last week. The wind was formidable and the waves were breaking almost on me! Of course the ferry saved the day!<br />
This old house I have always loved...across the street from"painted rock"...There was a "soon to be wed" couple there , Dylan and Lily, painting the rock with their wedding date, Sept 21, also mine 45 years ago. As I worked on this study , I wondered which was harder to do, the rock or the canvas?
