June on Block Island

        June's a month that went by very quickly, but I did get out to the island. One incredible (still felt like Spring) morning standing in the middle of the most beautiful bunch of wild flowers I painted this view of the Springhouse Pond and Atlantic beyond. A memorable day for me...It will hang at Jessie Edwards Studio beginning this weekend, come have a look ?....20x30"oil on canvas

Springtime?

Venice at Night in Hudson NY

                               Both of these paintings are truly reminiscent of what I saw in Venice Italy....not romanticized but what it was really like...to me...night time studies are fairly difficult but these work... they are both watercolor and gouache on 140lb hot pressed paper 22x30" come see them in person in Hudson at 510 Warren St Gallery this is the last weekend of the show...

I am having an exhibit at 510 Warren St Gallery in Hudson NY ....April 5-28  Opening reception Saturday April 6 3-6 pm ALL ARE WELCOME. !!!!!The painting at the top is A Garden in Toramina Sicily... The second one is a study of Inside a Gondola in Venice, and the third painting is of A Barge on The Seine in Paris ...All are 22x30" watercolor and gouache ...A wonderful way to bring in the SPRING!

Full Moonlight on the Alford Valley

A long walk home one cold night and this is what I saw....The moonlight was amazing... 30x40"oil on canvas

Snowy Day From My Studio Window

This scene never fails to inspire...But today the snow was lovely and the red mill building with the green railroad bridge just made me happy...like the little red STOP sign and the little green street sign ...all held together with the snow falling....18x24" oil on canvas

Self Portrait January 2019

       Here I am  standing in front of a mirror in my studio, again. Well haven't done a self portrait since last year this time, New Years Day...Now I need to keep the glasses on no matter what... I don't know where January went but it just dashed away over the frozen hills...I am wearing a very warm cashmere scarf I found at a thrift shop which works well to keep the cold at bay...16x20 oil on canvas

Same Chair Different Scene Just Sold

      The painting at the top was completed in October 2017 ...The lower one was painted this August 2018 ....Both of them were done at Ricky and Elizabeth's  farm in  Sheffield MA.  A good French chair will always inspire especially surrounded by wonderful things.... They were both just sold at 510 Warren St Gallery in Hudson NY  to very lucky people!  36x36" oil on canvas

Merry Christmas and Happy New Bouquet!

                              Presents from some of my students( the bouquet) and the pears)...a good reason to find a canvas and start painting...looking...putting the puzzle together...as I heard Van Gogh say in a new film about his life " I paint so that I don't have to think" ( close to that) a sentiment I have shared many times with anyone who will listen... and so a beautiful bunch of strange flowers ( I love each and every one of them) with a Georgia O'Keefe book in the "background"  ....oh yes....Merry Merry for all that believe in this day... Thank you for all of your kind gifts...I stay peacefully at home! 24x24" oil on canvas

A Bowl Of Pears On Three Different Days

Day one a lovely blue fly landed on the arrangement...Day two I tried a new cloth, one of the pears had come from a tree on Block Island( it was rounder and not quite so pink)....On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me A White Bowl Filled With  Seven Pears.....20x20"  16x20".  20x20" all oil on canvas

Alford Valley in Autumn

Same valley different day....different time of year...always the same feeling of how much I love this place and the changes I watch it go through... soon there will be snow!30x40" oil on canvas

Late Summer Scene

These chairs looked inviting to me...French outdoor seating... Just trying to keep up with the past months ...all of that time flew by so quickly isn't that true?...30x30' oil on canvas

October Dahlias

 I was so busy painting and traveling in October no time to post! These are some of the paintings I worked on ...The first was done at my sister Thea's house, I loved the leaves in the yellow water and the goldfish tank behind....well I loved it all, the window with the autumn leaves falling, the Mexican fabric the vase is sitting on....24x30 oil on canvas ...The second study was done after I went and picked a huge bouquet of Dahlias at Naumkeag gardens in Stockbridge Ma.... These blossoms  are just reaching their peak before the first frost...this I painted at my house, The petals and colors are so lush and gorgeous!  24x30 oil on canvas

Block Island September Scenes

Berkshire Barns

Hot summer days painting the landscape with my class, hard to find some shade to stand in... I was very inspired by this old barn and several others near by...I wondered if  there would ever come a day when no one will know what a barn is? I love that they were used for so long but now abandoned....30x30" oil on canvas

Peonies on the Table

      When the peonies bloom I get excited.. they are so gorgeous ....and so I try to find a place to paint them...Our table is where they landed along with Dave Mecklin's handmade in Maine chairs ...in the foreground my cup of coffee necessary for the energy to finish this painting   36x36" oil on canvas
