Dories Cove Rock as the sun sets and the color of the water changes again...I will never tire of this subject because...it always changes....

Crescent Beach Block Island Two Views

 

I look up the beach and see the Surf Hotel and other buildings , and the Ferry Boat at the dock of course....then I look the other direction and see the distant bluff up by Mansion Beach ...Summer days, summer views...watercolor and gouache. on paper..16x20"

Iska's House is For Sale in the Berkshires

Every time I go to Iska's house to paint I fall in love all over again...such a romantic and beautiful home filled with the most amazing art and furniture shipped from her old family homestead in Poland which was taken  over by the Nazis back when... here it is alive and well and I am surrounded by the opera playing throughout the rooms as I paint...when the house sells(a great deal , see it at "Storybook  Homes ")amazing....watercolor and gouache on hotpressed Arche Paper  22x30"

Self Portrait in the Summer

Some days I just want to kick back and do a self portrait...checking in with whatever I think I look like on any particular day....at one point as I was working on this I stood back and burst out laughing...there were so many wrinkles! who was this old lady Well I took care of that with one fell swoop of the brush...easiest face lift one can get...I like the color notes of the face...oil on canvas 16x20"

Laura Chester's Table

A few days ago I took the painting class up to Laura's newly renovated old house to work...everyone was outdoors painting the beautiful summer gardens and views except me... I had fallen in love with this wonderful table, chairs and cupboard...the daylilies were the clincher....I adore daylilies...watercolor and gouache 22x30"

It was kind of grey and stormy when I started to paint this study from Claudia's upstairs deck...

Block Island Rain

Standing on the Springhouse Annex Porch just out of the rain...the fog was rolling in and out....quite a nice early summer  day...I liked the green chair and distant town...I thought the porch was going to be all red until I looked up and saw that indeed it was actually the color of rain on a wet red porch...that's what I love about painting....you never now what is there until you try to paint it...24x24"oil on canvas

Manhattan Spring

I am told this area is called Madison Square Park?  As I walked across the "park" I was struck by the skyline and spring Sycamores just leafing out...great spot...great Spring...oil on canvas 30x40"

Braque or Matisse?

This is my most recent "interpretation" of a "Georges Braque" ....when I started the painting I was working from a print in a folder that one of my students had brought back from a museum in Vienna which was written in German... so for a while I thought it was a Matisse! Until there was a proper translation....I did this to free up my brush and colors...and because I liked it... you can't beat the Fauves for the "wild" touch...oil on canvas 24x36"

Springtime Still Life

OK so here are some new blossoms...yes the Easter Lily and the sweet Primroses...I love them both and the black stripped dish cloth was a nice find...oil on canvas 18x18"   more flowers to come...

A View From the Gardens in Taormina Sicily

This view was particularly beautiful...up on top of the rocky hills there were castles and monasteries...there were stone walkways leading up to both which we did hike up....such a wild landscape one does not see every day or get to paint! watercolor and gouache 22x30"

Sunrise from our patio at the Villa Carlotto....an amazing view to wake up to...It does not seem possible that such a place exists really...it is all too wonderful...I loved the Date Palm Tree out side the window, the little birds loved it also...Roman ruins everywhere you looked...molto bella...watercolor and gouache 16x16 14x16"

Spring on the Side of the Road

Unfortunately this Robin will not be flying around this spring...I saw it on the side of the road and one of my students picked it up and brought it to the studio...A beautiful bird to spend time with , postcards from Sicily and the white Hyacinth...oil on canvas 18x18"

Taormina Sicily views from our Hotel Villa Carlotta

Mt Etna is visible from  the restaurant on the top floor...it is sending out smoke every day now and sometimes it hides in the clouds...Looking out to the Ionian Sea the landscape is lush and full of wonderful colors...I am very happy to be painting this incredible scenery!
