Full Moon over Autumn Trees

This is what I saw one night as I came home from a meeting....The clouds looked like they were swirling around the moon....In this painting I have attempted to capture that night....watercolor 22x30"

Moon over the Apple Tree

This was painted earlier in the month....stone wall at bottom built by youngest son....I woke up in the middle of the night and saw this view out of the back window...for some reason I thought it was inspiring....have another moon scape in mind...will try it soon.....watercolor 22x30"

Moon setting over Montauk

I woke up in the middle of the night and looked out and this is what I saw....the moon was not full yet but as it was setting it was an orange color.... a wonderful sight....watercolor 22x30"

The House on the Road to the Sea

I have always loved this old house...it's right down the road from the Andrews and on the way to Claudias....The fence is particularly wonderful in the afternoon light....watercolor 22x30"

Berkshire Summer View

This bouquet had been tempting me for a while at the studio and then the day came that we went over to Alford valley to paint...so I brought the flowers and..voila! the hay field in the background was about to be mowed and loaded into the wagon there on the right....watercolor 22x30"

When I did this study there were not so many boats in the harbor...I mean not as many as there are now...this is the image on the invite to the opening this weekend...at Jessie Edwards Gallery Block Island ...One good thing about painting is that I get to edit what I am looking at and transpose all of it...the Coast Guard Station is in the distance....24x30" oil on canvas

To The Lighthouse

well it was quite a day with the gulls crying and diving to keep us from their young hatchlings....but I persevered ,hung in there, kept painting..this was the first study since the light had been rebuilt and the color of the trim had been changed to white after 100 years of red? anyway I sat in the sand painting...and had a wonderful time of it....22x30" watercolor on 140lb hot pressed Arche paper

Incoming Storm

This was painted at the Hogpen...storm came and went I actually had to run to the car and sit out the rain...covered the painting and palet with some kind of cloth.... oil on canvas  24x24

The View from Gashouse Lane

Now you see what you're missing? Block Island at it's finest....an old  outhouse and an incoming storm...do you see the cat crossing the yard? the gallery owner thought that it looked like a tiger...well I told her it was a cat, which indeed was a little tiger....so the question is, do I get rid of the cat or keep it? Swimming is great and I had alot of fun painting this wonderful BI view... oil on canvas 24x36"

Flourishing Garden or Watering Can from Sing Sing(the prison,spelling?)

I painted this at a friend and students house one fine afternoon...could not resist the watering can....my friend came out while I was painting and told me she had gotten it from the gardener at Sing Sing prison" They don;t make them like that any more." she said...I just loved the colors and the raised beds filled with growing things....

Summer Day Hay Fields and Garden

This painting is still being worked on, cause I always see something that needs to be changed...on going...a mean not big changes but subtle ones....the garden needs some weeding, planting and rearanging I think....oil/canvas 30x30"

Monterey Mass Laundry Line

Here is a  country gentleman's laundry hanging out to dry on a fine summer's day...the sky lights give it away, that is , this is no back country farm house....it was once....as I look at this painting I think maybe I will remove the skylights...they do not add to the image...what do you think?oil on canvas 20x24"

These wonderful Day Lilies were everywhere, well all along the old stone wall next to the woods....I love the gorgeous orange up against the violet trees and green ferns and leaves...watercolor 22x30"

Dark Marsh and Wild Iris

After painting on Block Island for several days....sunny skies and blue seas....I wanted to go to a dark place, and when it started to rain one afternoon   I found myself under the boughs of a tree, totally enjoying this wonderful scene with no sea or sky in sight.....oil on canvas 30x24"

Last week  I spent painting on Block Island . Vernal pools in the Spring Woods

Deep in the spring woods where the ferns are growing and the marsh marigolds have already bloomed, I spent the morning painting.There was a Jack in the Pulpit and lots of other wonderful wild flowers to be seen..I kept thinking of Charles Burchfield and what a great job he always did when in the woods.....the first time I saw his work I was transfixed by the feeling he got when painting the deep woods....

Spring Flowers and Old Blue Chair

I am sorry for the week of no posted work but the computer crashed and I had no access to photos of recent paintings ! So here goes after a long dry spell....A bouquet of early flowers brought in by a student set on a blue coral fabric from St Croix.... North Light Stormy Day BLock Island

A Matisse for a friend

An old friend gave me the canvas  and his wife asked for a copy of this Matisse painting....she had a poster of it that had disintegrated and so I did a long lasting oil for them on linen canvas.....32x40" Forgery commisions accepted.....they will never be perfect....just very good

Another AJ

What I liked about doing these paintings was that AJ never posed for me,  and he really didn't pay any attention to what I was  doing, so I didn't have to worry about him seeing the portraits or care about whether it was a good likeness or not....he looks very different in each one for the most part....watercolor 12x16"

Chenay Bay

This the view, one of many , from our cottage by the sea,  in the Carribean now....87 degrees and the water is the same .....lots of swimming  and painting...I am so inspired by tropical breezees and the look and feel of this foriegn place... more to come
