Red Squirrel and Pine Cone
I found this little red squirrel on the way to the studio one cold morning a few weeks ago lying in the road and brought it in to paint it. It ended up on top of a book of Matisses ( one which I was reproducing, interpreting for a friend). When do I ever get a squirrel to pose for me? Unfortunately only when it cannot run away...The pine cone had been kicking around the studio for a while.... oil on canvas 20x24" Oh by the way today is my birthday...59...that's amazing,

Happy birthday, my dear! I will send this link to my stepmama, who also takes aesthetic pleasure in roadkill.
thanks and thanks....my freezer is full of them...perfect little creatures waiting to be painted...
Claudia is correct: I do LOVE your work, Kate. And not just the piece with the squirrel. All of it. There is a fine mind behind this beauty.
And, happy belated birthday. Many more years to celebrate lie ahead. May they be happy, productive ones.
Thank you also...I am glad to find a like mind...so yours must be fine too...if you ever have any room on your walls just give a holler...we can fix that!
