The Editing Process

Here is a good example of what I did to a painting that I did not like in order to like it...I had to remove a few things....change a few things...until it said what I really wanted it to say to the best of my ability...can you count how many ways in which it was changed?   Zinnias and Guitar oil on canvas 30x30"

Umm... err.. I like them both.

However, the onion is no longer doing a wiggiedig across the table, the armchair and chest are gone, the floor is different, and the pillow on the remaining chair is a deeper color. The guitar has more definition..

but as I said, I like them both.

you are very observant(no surprise)...there are at least 5 other changes ...funny how when you touch one thing it leads to others...

I said this in class but will add here, this is a really helpful insight, thank you! As a writer I know the value of going back again and again to make it work, but somehow thought it has to be perfect the first time when painting...silly me.
